Hip Replacement Revision

After total hip replacement surgery, most patients continue to use this prosthesis for the rest of their lives and have no problems. Functions of prosthesis parts placed in the hip joint may deteriorate after wear and loosening due to mechanical or biological reasons. In order to restore the hip joint and make it functional, the surgical procedure to replace part or all of the prosthesis is called hip prosthesis revision surgery.

The proportion of patients who need revision hip replacement after the first hip replacement surgery is around 20%.

The most common reasons for hip replacement revision are;

1. Recurrent dislocation of the hip prosthesis
2. Mechanical problems (implant wear – loosening or breakage)
3.  Infection in the joint.
